What are my options when looking for a low emission or fuel efficient vehicle?

Electric (BEV)
Fully electric vehicles run entirely on battery power with no petrol engine and produce zero tailpipe emissions. They offer smooth, quiet performance with instant acceleration and significantly lower running costs compared with traditional petrol vehicles. With fewer moving parts and no need for things like oil changes, EVs can also reduce ongoing maintenance while delivering a modern, efficient driving experience.
Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV)
Plug-in hybrid vehicles combine a petrol engine with a larger battery that can be charged from the grid, allowing you to drive many daily trips entirely on electric power. When the battery is depleted, the petrol engine seamlessly takes over, providing the flexibility and range of a conventional car. This makes PHEVs ideal for drivers who want to reduce fuel use and emissions without worrying about longer journeys.
Ultra-Hybrid
An advanced form of hybrid technology designed to maximise electric assistance and reduce fuel consumption even further. These systems combine a petrol engine with a larger battery and more powerful electric motor, allowing for a much greater amount of electric driving. Many ultra-hybrid vehicles offer an electric range of 100km or more, meaning many daily trips can be completed using little to no petrol, with combined driving ranges often approaching or even exceeding 1,000km.

Hybrid
Hybrid vehicles combine a petrol engine with an electric motor to improve efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. The system automatically switches between petrol and electric power, or uses both together, depending on driving conditions. The result is a familiar driving experience with better fuel economy and lower running costs compared with a traditional petrol vehicle.
Mild Hybrid
Mild hybrid vehicles use a small electric motor to assist the petrol engine, improving efficiency and reducing fuel consumption during acceleration and stop-start driving. While they cannot drive on electric power alone, the system helps lower emissions and running costs. Today, a large majority of new cars incorporate mild hybrid technology in some form, making it a simple yet effective way to enjoy better fuel efficiency without changing your driving habits.
