The new Cayenne Electric. Yes, it’s spacious. Yes, it’s electric. But above all, it’s a sports car. Because what’s packed inside isn’t just cargo – it’s 30,000 racing victories.
Everything Porsche builds ends up a sports car. It’s practically unavoidable at this point. Give the engineers a family SUV brief and they’ll hand you something with Formula E motors, a chassis proven on the Sahara Desert and at Le Mans, and a 0 to 100km/h time most sports cars would be proud of. That’s exactly what’s happened with the new Cayenne Electric.
This is Porsche’s first fully electric Cayenne, and it doesn’t ask you to choose between space, comfort and performance. It simply refuses to compromise on any of them. Five seats, real everyday usability, and an electric drivetrain built by the same people who defined what a sports car is supposed to feel like.
It’s now available to order in New Zealand through Armstrong’s Porsche, and it’s the most exciting thing to happen to the Cayenne nameplate since it first arrived.
Porsche New Zealand has launched the Cayenne Electric as a three-model line-up, each one built for a slightly different kind of driver, but all three unmistakably Cayenne.
Sit with those figures on the Turbo for a moment. A five-seat luxury SUV weighing well over two tonnes, hitting 100km/h faster than the vast majority of sports cars on the road today. Dial in Sport Plus, hold the brake, floor the throttle, and Launch Control delivers everything both motors have got the instant you let go.
Every model runs all-wheel drive through two permanent magnet synchronous motors, with the more powerful unit sitting on the rear axle to keep that signature Cayenne rear-biased balance intact. This isn’t an electric motor bolted into an SUV body. It’s a Porsche powertrain, built to drive like one.
Step inside and the Cayenne Electric puts the largest display area ever fitted to a Porsche right in front of you. The new Porsche Digital Interaction system brings a genuinely modern, customisable interface, and Mood Modes let you shift the entire cabin atmosphere between energised and relaxed, whenever the drive calls for it.
Frameless doors, a rear-mounted B-pillar and slimmer C-pillars open the cabin up, flooding it with light and giving everyone on board a clearer view out. The Digital Key can be shared with up to seven people, so anyone in the family can unlock, lock and start the car straight from their phone.
Every detail has been considered, from the seats to the sound. The optional Porsche Electric Sport Sound gives the drivetrain its own emotional voice, because a Porsche should never be silent about what it’s capable of.
An electric Porsche still needs to live up to Porsche’s reputation for effortless long-distance driving, and the Cayenne Electric delivers exactly that. Thanks to 800-volt architecture, it charges from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 16 minutes at a suitable DC fast charger. The Porsche Charging Planner takes care of the thinking on longer journeys, mapping out charging stops, calculating charging times against your driving style and battery status, and pre-conditioning the battery so it’s ready to charge at full speed the moment you arrive.
At home, the Cayenne Electric is set to offer the Porsche Wireless Charging System, the first of its kind for an electric vehicle. Park over the inductive floor plate and charging begins automatically, no cables required, expected to become available from the second half of 2026. In the meantime, dual AC charging ports mean a home Wallbox setup at up to 11kW, or an optional 22kW, is simple to arrange.
Every fully electric Porsche also comes backed by a worldwide high-voltage battery warranty, covering material and manufacturing defects for eight years or up to 160,000km, with guaranteed remaining battery capacity built in for total peace of mind.
The Cayenne has never just been about the school run or the motorway commute, and the electric version raises that bar rather than lowering it. Adaptive air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management adjusts ride height and damping in real time, delivering a driving experience that’s just as composed off the beaten track as it is on it. Off-road driving programmes and a wading depth of 500mm come standard, with the optional Off-Road package extending the approach angle even further.
Towing capacity climbs to 3,500kg with the Off-Road package fitted, giving Kiwi families and adventurers the flexibility to bring the boat, the horse float, or the trailer along, without a second thought.
The new Cayenne Electric isn’t an electric version of the Cayenne you already know. It’s the next chapter of it, built with the same obsession over performance, comfort and design that’s carried the nameplate this far, now powered by an electric drivetrain worthy of the badge on the bonnet.
Whether it’s the Cayenne Electric, the sharper S Electric, or the genuinely staggering Turbo Electric, all three are available to order now through Armstrong’s Porsche Centre Wellington, wherever you are in New Zealand.
