The B03X measures 4.27 metres long, making it easy to place on urban roads and in tighter parking spaces. A 2,605mm wheelbase and flat-floor electric vehicle architecture help maximise the available cabin space. Rear passengers have a claimed 947mm of legroom, while front headroom measures up to 1,009mm.
This packaging is central to what makes the B03X relevant for New Zealand drivers. It offers the manoeuvrability of a compact vehicle without forcing customers to give up the seating position, passenger room or carrying flexibility they expect from an SUV.
The Leapmotor B03X boot provides 405 litres of conventional cargo space. Beneath the boot floor is an additional waterproof and washable 105-litre GigaBox, taking total capacity to 510 litres. This separate compartment could be particularly useful for wet clothing, sports equipment, charging cables or other items you may prefer to keep away from the main luggage area. Folding the rear seats increases total cargo capacity to 1,605 litres.
The rear seat cushions can also be raised to create more vertical loading space for taller items. Around the rest of the cabin, there are 33 storage compartments, including space beneath the floating centre console. For a compact electric SUV, that flexibility may be more valuable in daily use than exterior size alone suggests.
The B03X cabin is centred around a 14.6-inch floating touchscreen, supported by an 8.8-inch digital driver display. Its Leap OS 4.0 Plus operating system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Over-the-air software updates allow compatible systems and functions to be updated without every change requiring a workshop visit.
Other practical cabin features include a 15W wireless smartphone charger, dual cupholders and three selectable driving modes. The aim is to make the technology useful during normal driving rather than adding complexity for its own sake.
The New Zealand B03X specification includes seven airbags and a Level 2 driver-assistance package with 21 assistance features supported by 14 sensors and cameras. Level 2 technology can assist with selected steering, braking and acceleration functions, but it does not make the B03X self-driving. The driver must remain attentive and responsible for controlling the vehicle.
The B03X does not yet have a published ANCAP safety rating. Leapmotor anticipates that it will achieve five stars, but this remains an expected result until ANCAP completes and publishes an independent assessment.
Customers can choose between two battery sizes without navigating an unnecessarily complicated model range. Both versions provide useful charging capability, a spacious digital cabin and flexible storage, while the Design model adds extra range and performance for drivers who need it.
The B03X will also be backed by a six-year vehicle warranty, adding further reassurance for customers moving into an electric vehicle.
