Fifty years on, the Hilux steps into a new era. It keeps the unbreakable reputation that built its name and adds modern comfort and tech, so you get the best of both.
Every Hilux runs Toyota’s proven 2.8 litre turbo diesel and it makes 150 kW with up to 500 Nm of torque, so there’s plenty of grunt for towing and loaded work. Most automatics now add a 48V mild hybrid that stores energy as you brake and gives a hand off the line, which means lower fuel use and emissions without any change to the way you work it.
Underneath, it’s all business, with a ladder-frame chassis built for heavy-duty work. The 4×4 models are rated to tow up to 3,500 kg braked and the range can carry payloads that top a tonne. A low-range transfer case, Multi-Terrain Select and downhill assist keep it sure-footed on steep or rough ground, and Toyota Safety Sense looks after everyone on board.
A bolder grille and a more confident stance give the new Hilux real presence.
LED headlights with daytime running lights help you see and be seen.
Hard-wearing alloys and tyres sized to the grade for work and weekends.
Pick single, extra or double cab in cab-chassis or wellside so it fits how you work.
Climb in and the new Hilux is a proper step up, with a roomier, better-finished cabin that still fits whatever you need it to.
There’s a bigger touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a clearer digital dash, so everything’s easy to read and easy to reach. Toyota has kept proper buttons for things like the climate control too, which the tradies asked for so you can use them with gloves on or eyes on the road.
Move up the range and you get a Multi-Terrain Monitor that uses cameras to show what’s around you when the going gets tricky, plus extra comfort and safety gear that makes the long days easier.
The SR is the hard-working starting point and then the SR5 and SR5 Limited add comfort and tech, while the Adventure leans into the lifestyle side. Pick 4×2 or 4×4, manual or auto, and the cab and tray that suit the work.
For fifty years the Hilux has handled our farms, building sites and back-country tracks, and this new one carries that on. Proven engineering and genuine capability are backed by Toyota’s nationwide dealer and parts network, so you’re never far from support.
On most autos it trims fuel and emissions by recovering energy as you brake.
Dial in the right mode for the surface so you keep traction off the beaten track.
Genuine pulling power for the boat, the float or the digger on 4×4 diesel grades.
Driver-assist tech as standard, including a blind-spot monitor.
The SR is the hard-working heart of the range and it’s built for farms, fleets and trades with the durability the Hilux is known for. Step up to the SR5 and you add comfort and tech along with extra safety gear, while you keep the same 2.8 litre turbo diesel, 3,500 kg towing on 4×4 models and the option of the 48V mild hybrid.
The SR5 Limited brings the most kit in the range and then the Adventure adds a tougher look and an off-road focus for those who work hard and play harder. Both pair the proven diesel with the latest tech and a 5-star safety rating, so they’re as happy on the worksite as they are in the back blocks.
