Armstrong's Car Dealerships in Auckland: Your Trusted Dealer Guide

Guides news
20 April 2026

Searching for Auckland car dealers can feel a bit like house hunting. There are far too many options, some of them start to blur together, and you’re never really sure who you can actually trust. Auckland has no shortage of car yards and showrooms, but finding one that offers the full package is the goal. From your kids’ first car to your first prestige upgrade, plus strong after-sales support, we take care of everything.

Armstrong’s is a name many Kiwis will recognise. The brand was founded in 1993 by Rick Armstrong in Christchurch, who had just 33 vehicles in total on the lot. Today, it has grown into one of New Zealand’s largest independent automotive retail operations. We now run 21 dealerships across Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, representing over 20 global brands.

This guide focuses on our Auckland network, what’s where, what the experience is like, and what to know before walking in the door.

What makes Armstrong’s different from other Auckland car dealers

Auckland’s got good car dealers. Plenty of them, actually. So what separates Armstrong’s from the rest of the pack?

The brand range is the obvious one, and it’s hard to overstate. Under Armstrong’s Auckland umbrella, you’ll find everything from Toyota, Nissan and Mazda, the trusted household names of the NZ market, through to Mercedes-Benz and Lexus. Or electric brands like smart, Dongfeng and Leapmotor. And let’s not forget fan-favourite brands like INEOS and Peugeot or fast-growing new entrants like BAIC

That spread within a single dealer group is unusual in New Zealand, let alone Auckland. You can go from sussing out a Mazda CX-5 & Toyota RAV4 for the family to test-driving a Mercedes-Benz GLA without changing who you’re dealing with. It also means we can cater across a wide spectrum of needs, from compact city cars and family SUVs to high-performance, commercial, off-road and fully electric vehicles, all within one group.

Then there’s our Certified Used dealerships. Every eligible pre-owned vehicle sold is inspected and serviced by in-house technicians before it hits the yard. For used car buyers, and that’s a huge chunk of the Auckland market, it removes a lot of the anxiety around buying second-hand.

We look after every part of your car ownership journey, before you even drive away. Our team can arrange finance and insurance, organise accessories and fitment, and apply protection products, including Roadside Assistance cover, so your vehicle is ready from day one.

Our support continues well beyond handover. From servicing and WOFs to repairs, parts and panel and paint through Armstrong’s Autobody, you can rely on us to keep your vehicle performing at its best long after you leave the dealership.

Where to find Armstrong’s dealerships across Auckland

The Auckland network is spread across three main hubs. Most Auckland car dealers cluster in one part of the city, Armstrong’s covers three.

Grey Lynn / Central Auckland is home to Auckland City Toyota on Great North Road. It’s the central-city option, particularly handy if you’re coming from the CBD or the Shore. Auckland City Toyota Grey Lynn sells the full range of Toyota new vehicles, and carries a strong mix of used vehicles across multiple brands. Parking is available in front of the showroom or roadside on Great North Road, and the team are used to walk-ins as much as booked appointments.

Greenlane / Newmarket is where you’ll find Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, BAIC, Dongfeng, Leapmotor, and INEOS, plus Auckland City Toyota Greenlane. If you’re interested in European brands or want to test some of the newer entrants into the market, this area is the spot. The Greenlane team has placed in the top three of Armstrong’s internal culture survey two years running, the sort of thing that shows in how you’re treated at the front desk.

East Auckland / Botany / Mt Wellington is very much the growth corridor for Armstrong’s Auckland. At its centre is the Auckland City Toyota Mt Wellington Super Store on Forge Way, our largest dealership and quite possibly the largest dealership in New Zealand. It carries over 300+ vehicles on site and features 18 service bays. As New Zealand’s only Toyota Super Store, it’s built for the future in mind, including EV infrastructure capable of charging more than 20 vehicles at once.

Out at Botany on Ti Rakau Drive, the network continues with a strong cluster of seven brands. Here you’ll find Armstrong’s Mazda, Armstrong’s Nissan and Peugeot & Leapmotor East Auckland bringing newer EV options into the mix. The area is also home to our prestige offering, including Mercedes-Benz Botany (a consistent top-performer and multiple-time winner of Mercedes-Benz Retailer of the Year), Armstrong’s smart and Lexus of East Auckland. Combined, this Botany precinct offers a broad mix of mainstream, premium and emerging brands in one location, making it a key automotive shopping destination for customers in East Auckland and nearby suburbs.

All dealerships across this area are fully equipped with servicing, parts and tyre capability, ensuring customers can access end-to-end vehicle support close to home. Complementing this picture is Armstrong’s Autobody, providing in-house panel and paint capability. This adds another layer of convenience and confidence for customers, from minor cosmetic repairs through to major collision work, ensuring vehicles can be restored to manufacturer standards within the same trusted network.

Full addresses, hours, and contact details for every location are on our dealerships page.

Buying used cars at our Auckland dealerships

It’s worth taking a closer look here, because it’s a big part of what sets our Auckland dealerships apart. Across our network, our used vehicle offering is split into two clear categories, Armstrong’s Certified Used and non-Certified Used vehicles, each designed to give customers confidence in different ways depending on the vehicle.

Armstrong’s Certified Used isn’t just a label we slap on used cars. It’s a curated collection of quality used vehicles sourced from across our network, backed by consistent standards, expert checks and the scale of our Group.

Every eligible Certified Used car is safety and mechanically inspected by our in-house trained technicians before it hits the yard. That means most vehicles we take as trade-ins from customers upgrading are included in these checks. So you can know that when you are browsing at Certified Used Greenlane, you might find anything from a Toyota Corolla to a Porsche Cayenne, and all cars are expertly checked over by our people who know what they are looking at.

As we’ve mentioned, not every high-quality used vehicle will sit under the Armstrong’s Certified Used banner. Many newer, same-brand vehicles, often aligned to the franchise sold at that dealership, may still carry the balance of a factory warranty. These vehicles are typically supported directly by the manufacturer, with their own assurances and benefits, rather than being classified as Certified Used.

The Certified Used programme has been designed to ensure vehicles outside of that category are held to similarly rigorous standards, giving customers confidence across the full used vehicle range.

The prices of Certified Used cars are naturally more accessible than our new vehicles, which makes them the go-to for first-time buyers, young families, or anyone else who wants a quality car without the new-car price attached. You can also trade in your current car at any of these locations.

Armstrong’s Advantage: what happens after you buy

A lot of Auckland car dealers talk about customer service. We’d rather just show it. The Armstrong’s Advantage is our after-sales package for Certified Used vehicles, designed to give you certainty long after you’ve driven off the lot.

Before any vehicle can earn the Armstrong’s Certified Used Advantage title, it has to pass a detailed safety and mechanical inspection, including a road test. Our trained technicians will also run a history check and compliance checks, which cover things like theft, outstanding finance, manufacturer recalls and odometer readings. If things don’t stack up, they don’t make the cut.

Once you have actually purchased your new Certified Used car, you will get access to fixed-price servicing at any of our dealerships nationwide. Whatever make or model you own, you’ll know exactly what servicing will cost before you book. That includes tailored fixed price options across EV, compact, medium, large and commercial vehicles, as well as a range of add-on services like wheel alignments. You’ll also benefit from a $65 WOF, helping keep ongoing ownership costs predictable.

If you buy a car from us in Auckland and move to Christchurch next year, you can walk into our dealerships there and get the same deal. Roadside assistance is also provided for 12 months from the date of delivery, this is 24/7, 365 days of the year, motoring peace of mind.

What the buying experience actually looks like

A lot of people put off visiting a dealership because they’re not sure what to expect. So here’s what actually happens when you walk in.

You can browse at your own pace. We’ll say hi, but nobody’s going to hover over your shoulder the moment you step onto the yard. When you’re ready to talk, one of our team will chat to you about what you’re looking for, what your budget looks like, and whether you’ve got a car to trade in. If you want to test drive something that catches your eye, we can usually make that happen on the same visit.

Trade-in valuations are often done on the spot. There’s no commitment required to get an offer on your current car. If you decide to go ahead, the trade-in value is applied towards the purchase and our finance team handles the rest.

One thing worth mentioning for anyone comparing car dealers Auckland-wide: Armstrong’s operates as a registered motor vehicle trader under the Motor Vehicle Sales Act 2003. That means full compliance with the Consumer Guarantees Act, protections you don’t get buying privately. For a purchase this significant, that matters.

Car finance and insurance at our Auckland dealerships

One of the most underrated advantages of buying through a large dealer group is not having to run around between a car yard, a bank and an insurance broker. At Armstrong’s, our Business Managers can handle all of it from the dealership.

Our car finance is provided through various lenders, e.g. Heartland Bank or UDC, with fixed interest rates depending on your circumstances. We can often structure deals with zero deposits, deferred repayments, balloon payments, or guaranteed future packages, whatever suits your budget. For brands like Toyota, Mazda, Lexus, Nissan and Mercedes-Benz, we also have access to manufacturer-backed finance programmes that can offer competitive rates that you won’t find at a standard bank.

If you are trading in a car with finance still owing on it, we can settle that directly with the finance company and deduct the balance. You don’t even need to sort it yourself.

On the insurance side, we work with specialist motor vehicle insurers who offer cover you often can’t get through a standard provider. That includes new vehicle replacement, gap insurance, used vehicle price guarantee, and claims administered through the dealership rather than a call centre. It’s all done at the same time as the purchase, so you can drive away fully sorted.

Electric and hybrid vehicles at our Auckland dealerships

This deserves its own mention because the electric car conversation has changed a lot in the last couple of years, especially with fuel prices rising.

Our Auckland dealerships now have a great range of fully electric and hybrid options available. On the full-EV side, Leapmotor, Dongfeng and smart have models available to test drive across our East Auckland and Greenlane / Newmarket dealerships. But if you aren’t ready to take the plunge into fully electric, Toyota, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, smart , Nissan and Mazda offer hybrid or plug-in hybrid options that give you the fuel savings without the “charge-range anxiety.”

The Mt Wellington Toyota Super Store has EV charging for 20 cars and our sales teams across the group have been trained up on EV ownership specifics like home charging setup, real-world range expectations, and how running costs compare to petrol and diesel. If you’re on the fence, come in and chat to us and take one for a test drive.

Servicing and parts: the long-term relationship

Buying a car is just one transaction. Keeping it running well is a well-oiled relationship, and this is where being part of a large dealer group pays off.

Our Auckland dealerships are MTA-accredited and fully equipped to service all different makes and models, not only the brands we sell. Our technicians are factory-trained and handle everything from routine servicing and WOF inspections through to diagnostic repairs and warranty works. And we will service your car, no matter the make and model or where you bought it.

We also stock all genuine parts and accessories for all of our brands. Genuine parts are properly engineered to fit your car, they will maintain your warranty, and they also tend to last longer and better than aftermarket alternatives. If something is not in stock, our parts team can usually get it in the next-day.

The practical upside? If you buy from us at Armstrong’s and service with us, everything will be in one neat place. Your service history will be on file and your warranty tracked.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to book an appointment to visit?

Nope. Every Armstrong’s dealership in Auckland takes walk-ins. Sales hours run Monday-Friday 8:30am to 6pm. Saturday is 9am-5pm, and Sunday is 10am-4pm at most locations (but check your nearest dealership page or on Google for exact times). However, if there is a specific car you have your eyes on and you want to make sure it’s definitely available, give us a call beforehand to organise a test drive. You can also make a fully refundable deposit online to hold the car while you arrange to come in.

What brands does Armstrong’s sell in Auckland?

The full list across our Auckland dealerships: Toyota, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Nissan, Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, BAIC, Dongfeng, Leapmotor, smart, and INEOS. That’s on the new side. All dealerships, including our Certified Used yards in Newmarket and Greenlane, also carry pre-owned vehicles like BMW, Hyundai, or Kia.

Can I trade in a car that isn’t a brand Armstrong’s sells?

You can, and plenty of people do. We accept all makes and models for trade-in at any of our dealerships. One of our team members will look over the vehicle and give you a number on the spot, no obligation attached. From there, you can put it towards your next purchase or just take the cash. Entirely up to you.

Does Armstrong’s offer finance for used cars?

Yes, our finance options cover both new and used vehicles through lenders like Heartland Bank or UDC, plus manufacturer finance programmes for brands like Toyota, Mazda , Nissan, and Mercedes-Benz. Our Business Managers sit down with you at the dealership and work through what actually fits your budget rather than just approving the maximum amount a lender will offer.

Am I protected under the Consumer Guarantees Act when buying from Armstrong’s?

As a registered motor vehicle trader, every car we sell falls under the Consumer Guarantees Act. That means it has to be of acceptable quality, match its description and fit for purpose. If something isn’t quite right, you have legal recourse. Compare that to a private sale on Trade Me or Facebook where those protections don’t really apply, and you can see why buying from a licensed dealer carries a lot less risk.

Can Armstrong’s service my car if I bought it somewhere else?

Absolutely, bring it in. Our service departments handle all makes and models regardless of where the vehicle was purchased. Factory-trained technicians, genuine parts where applicable, and the same complimentary wash and vacuum and loan car access as anyone else. Book a service online or call your local dealership.

What is Armstrong’s Advantage?

It’s the after-sales package that comes with every eligible Certified Used vehicle we sell. Before the car goes on the yard, it passes a safety and mechanical inspection, plus history and compliance checks (theft, finance owing, recalls, odometer). Once you’ve bought it, you get fixed price servicing and $65 WOFs at any Armstrong’s dealership nationwide and 12 months of roadside assistance. The idea is that buying used from us should feel a lot closer to the new car experience than the usual second-hand gamble.
